Spiritual Expression

As my spiritual practice deepens, so has my need for creative expression. At first, words put onto the pages of my journal were my primary way of giving meaning to my experiences of the world. Then many years ago, I discovered that journal writing was not enough anymore; I also needed color, shapes, images and texture to express my innermost feelings and thoughts.

As my art-making practice deepens, it is difficult to discern if an art piece is an expression of my spiritual practice - or not. I cannot separate my yearning to be authentic with my need to make art. Mindfulness is demanded by both practices, as well having courage to continue my personal journey to wholeness.
